In an alarming trend, another Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight attendant has gone missing after landing in Toronto, bringing the total number of missing crew members in the Canadian city this year to seven. PIA officials confirmed that Noor Sher, an experienced flight attendant who joined the national carrier in 2003, was part of flight PK-781, which departed from Islamabad on Monday, the first day of Eidul Azha.
Mr. Sher’s disappearance was noted when he failed to report for duty on the return flight. PIA spokespersons have reported that since January 2023, 14 crew members have not returned after landing in Toronto.
PIA has initiated departmental action against the missing crew member. Officials believe the trend of flight attendants disappearing in Canada is due to the country’s flexible laws, which offer asylum to individuals after they enter the country.
The ongoing disappearances have raised significant concerns within PIA and among Pakistani authorities. The airline has been struggling to address this issue, which not only affects its operations but also raises questions about the safety and oversight of its crew members.
PIA is reportedly considering stricter measures and protocols for crew members on international flights to mitigate the risk of further disappearances. The airline may also engage with Canadian authorities to better understand and address the underlying reasons for these incidents.
