Rescue teams will begin the tenth day of their search for missing British teenager Jay Slater in Tenerife on Wednesday. The 19-year-old disappeared after attending the New Rave Generation music festival last Sunday evening at Papagayo Beach Club on the south of the island.
After making new acquaintances during the early hours of the morning, Jay traveled with two British men to a remote Airbnb, which is an 11-hour hike from his accommodation. At around 8:15 am last Monday, he contacted his friend Lucy Law, telling her he was lost, had injured his leg, was dehydrated, and that his phone only had one percent battery.
Jay’s phone was last located at 8:50 am near the Mirador La Cruz de Hilda cafe, a steep climb in the wrong direction from where an eyewitness had told him to head.
The mayor of a town near where missing British teenager Jay Slater vanished has claimed that the 19-year-old may have been spotted watching Euro matches. Jay disappeared in Tenerife 10 days ago after a night out, with search crews so far failing to find any trace of him.
Jay’s phone was last traced to the Masca ravine in the isolated Rural de Teno park after he made a final frantic call to his friend Lucy Law last Monday before his battery ran out. Since then, sniffer dogs, helicopters, drones, and dozens of emergency workers, alongside Jay’s friends and family, have been searching for the apprentice bricklayer.
Mayor Emilio Jose Navarro of Santiago del Teide told Reuters that several locals believe they may have seen Jay in the days following his disappearance. Some of these individuals have been interviewed by police, including a few who claimed they saw Jay on the coast watching Euro matches.
Jay’s desperate loved ones have been sharing a grainy CCTV image from Santiago del Teide, which they hope could be a sighting of him. The community remains on high alert as the search continues.
The extensive search has involved sniffer dogs, drones, and helicopters combing the rugged terrain around the Mirador La Cruz de Hilda area in the Rural de Teno Park. The Civil Guard has expanded the search area and focused on three main ravines, utilizing specialized dog teams from Madrid.
The family and friends of Jay Slater remain hopeful for his safe return as the search efforts continue with unwavering dedication.
