In a chilling discovery, bodycam footage released by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission shows the aftermath of a deadly alligator attack in Clearwater, Florida. The footage reveals a massive 14ft alligator with the remains of 41-year-old Sabrina Peckham in its swollen stomach.
Sabrina Peckham, who was experiencing homelessness and staying at an encampment close to the canal, was tragically dragged into the water by the alligator. The harrowing incident was brought to light when a passerby noticed the gator with what appeared to be a human body in its mouth in September of last year.
Newly released video footage captures the intense moments following the attack. The gator, surrounded by police, is shown moments after being shot to death. Its visibly bloated stomach contained the remains of Peckham. Police bodycam footage also recorded the moment the alligator was gunned down, with a voice shouting, “Watch them, watch them,” before the fatal shot was fired.
Local residents were horrified as they witnessed the gruesome scene, some even recording the alligator dragging its prey through the canal. Emergency responders, along with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, worked to pull the alligator from the water. Officials described the reptile as being “humanely killed” following the attack.
Footage shows officers taping the animal’s mouth shut and using ropes and chains to lift it from the canal, as reported by Fox13. The gator’s belly had to be cut open to retrieve some of Peckham’s remains, adding a gruesome task to the already horrifying scene.
Following her mother’s tragic death, Peckham’s daughter publicly denied rumors that her mother had been taunting the animal, emphasizing the senselessness of the attack.
The incident underscores the dangers posed by Florida’s wildlife and the vulnerability of those living in close proximity to natural habitats.
