Debbie Duncan, the mother of missing teenager Jay Slater, has announced the withdrawal of funds from the GoFundMe page established to aid in the search for her son. In an update posted on Thursday morning, Duncan provided details on how the funds will be allocated to support the ongoing search efforts.
“I would like to thank everyone for your support, kind messages, and good wishes. It’s difficult to wrap our heads around what is happening right now, but we are not losing hope that we will find Jay and return home together,” she wrote.
Duncan explained that the funds will be used to support the mountain rescue teams tirelessly searching for Jay, as well as to cover accommodation and food expenses due to the extended stay in Tenerife. Additionally, part of the funds will be used to fly loved ones to Tenerife to provide support during this challenging time.
“Thank you again for all your donations and support, this means the world to us,” she added.
Jay Slater, 19, went missing after attending a music festival in Tenerife. Despite extensive search operations involving local police, mountain rescue teams, and volunteers, there have been no significant leads on Jay’s whereabouts. The community continues to rally around the family, hoping for Jay’s safe return.
