In a significant political development, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman have decided to present a strong opposition to the fiscal year 2024-25 budget. This decision was reached during a meeting on Sunday, where both leaders expressed their concerns about the budget and the deteriorating law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ARY News reported.
The leaders criticized the budget, labeling it as an International Monetary Fund (IMF) driven and anti-people budget. They pledged to play a constructive role in the National Assembly by jointly opposing the budget. This unified stance marks a significant step in their political collaboration, aiming to challenge the government’s economic policies effectively.
Asad Qaiser and Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman also underscored the importance of fostering brotherly relations with Afghanistan. They discussed the need to establish economic corridors at crossing points to enhance bilateral trade and economic cooperation. This move is seen as a strategic effort to stabilize regional relations and boost economic ties with the neighboring country.
In addition to opposing the budget, the meeting concluded with the decision to form a political committee. This committee will address and resolve any reservations between PTI and JUI-F, and formulate a cohesive political strategy moving forward. PTI Central Deputy Secretary Information Akhtar Hussain Yousafzai also participated in the meeting, indicating a commitment to strengthening political cooperation between the two parties.
The alliance between PTI and JUI-F, two significant political entities in Pakistan, is likely to create substantial challenges for the current government’s budgetary and economic policies. Their unified opposition signals a robust debate in the upcoming National Assembly sessions, focusing on the welfare of the people and the economic stability of the country.
