Spanish police are investigating reported sightings of missing teenager Jay Slater, who was allegedly seen watching Euro 2024 matches on the Tenerife coast. Emilio Jose Navarro, mayor of Santiago del Teide, stated on Tuesday that several people have come forward, claiming to have seen the 19-year-old after his last contact with friends.
Jay’s last known location was in the mountainous Rural de Teno park, approximately three-and-a-half miles from Santiago del Teide. Police are examining grainy CCTV footage from the town, captured around 10 hours after Jay’s phone last pinged, to determine whether it shows the missing apprentice bricklayer.
The image shared with media outlets depicts a person walking through the town, but the face is not clearly visible. Authorities are working with the town hall and the company managing the security cameras to analyze the footage further.
Several interviewees claimed to have spotted Jay on the coast watching Euro 2024 matches. British national Tom Beckett, familiar with the area where Jay last used his phone, expressed doubts about whether Jay reached Santiago del Teide, suggesting the narrow road would have made it difficult for tourists to miss him.
The ongoing investigation into Jay’s disappearance has drawn significant attention, with friends, family, and local authorities collaborating to gather any information that might lead to his whereabouts. As the search continues, the community remains hopeful for a positive outcome.
