Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Dr. Yasmin Rashid has been admitted to Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital in Punjab’s capital after her health deteriorated. According to sources, Rashid’s health worsened due to a lack of timely medical attention during her judicial remand at Kot Lakhpat Jail.
Her lawyer, Advocate Rana Mudassar, revealed that despite multiple court orders ensuring she received proper medical care, Rashid was deprived of necessary treatment, leading to her current condition. Rashid, the former health minister of Punjab, will undergo various tests, including cancer-related assessments, and is experiencing breathing difficulties.
Hospital sources confirmed that Rashid has been admitted for specific tests, with further check-ups scheduled at a government hospital. This incident follows a similar episode in May when Rashid was transferred to Lahore’s Services Hospital after collapsing.
Dr. Yasmin Rashid has been incarcerated for over a year, facing multiple charges related to the nationwide protests and riots on May 9, 2023, following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan. Initially detained under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance on May 12, she was later re-arrested for her alleged involvement in the May 9 unrest.
Many PTI leaders, including Imran Khan, have been imprisoned for nearly a year, facing charges primarily linked to the May 9 protests, during which state installations, including the Lahore Corps Commander House, were attacked.
