Avon and Somerset Police have initiated a manhunt after two suitcases containing human remains were discovered near the Clifton Suspension Bridge. An investigation is underway to locate the man who left the suitcases and to identify the deceased.
The police received a report at 23:57 BST on Wednesday of a man with a suitcase acting suspiciously on the bridge. Acting Bristol Commander, Vicks Hayward-Melen, acknowledged the community’s concern over this “very disturbing incident.”
The man was reportedly taken to the bridge, which connects Clifton in Bristol to Leigh Woods in North Somerset, by a taxi. The taxi driver’s vehicle has been seized, and the driver is assisting the police with their inquiries.
Commander Hayward-Melen stated, “We understand that this is a very concerning situation for the community. We are doing everything possible to identify the deceased and locate the individual responsible for this heinous act.”
The police have appealed to the public for any information that could assist in the investigation. Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious around the Clifton Suspension Bridge area on Wednesday night is urged to come forward.
The discovery of the suitcases has shocked the local community, and additional police patrols have been deployed in the area to provide reassurance and gather further information.
The investigation continues as police work tirelessly to piece together the events leading up to the discovery of the human remains.
