A tragic explosion in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mardan district on Friday resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to seven others. The blast occurred when a remote-controlled explosive device planted on a bridge was detonated, police officials reported.
Sadar Superintendent of Police (SP) Khalid Khan confirmed the casualties to Dawn.com, stating that “unidentified terrorists” had planted the device near the Jalala bridge in the Takhtbhai area. The device was detonated as a police van was passing by, causing significant damage to the vehicle and a nearby rickshaw.
Three individuals in the rickshaw were killed, while seven others, including two police officers, sustained injuries. The wounded were swiftly transported to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Takhtbhai and Mardan Medical Complex for treatment.
Upon being alerted to the incident, a large contingent of police arrived at the scene and launched a search operation. Mardan District Police Officer Zahoor Barbar Afridi confirmed that the explosion was set off via remote control.
In response to the incident, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the blast on the social media platform X, extending his condolences to the victims and their families. KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Amir Muqam also condemned the explosion and expressed their sympathies to the affected families.
