Akhtar Mengal, a senior politician from Balochistan and chairman of the Balochistan National Party (Mengal), announced his resignation from the National Assembly on Tuesday. The decision came during a press briefing at the Parliament, where Mengal, accompanied by Mehmood Khan Achakzai, expressed his frustration with the persistent neglect of Balochistan’s issues.
Mengal explained that he had intended to address the Assembly regarding the pressing problems faced by Balochistan. However, he ultimately decided to resign after realizing that there was no genuine concern or interest in these matters within the Assembly. He criticized the lack of open dialogue and the absence of any initiative to convene a meeting to discuss the challenges facing Balochistan.
Born on October 6, 1962, Akhtar Mengal has been a significant political figure in Balochistan. He served as the province’s chief minister from 1997 to 1998 and has held a seat in the Balochistan Provincial Assembly. Mengal has been a member of the National Assembly since February 2024.
