Defense Minister Khawaja Asif disclosed that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Fazlur Rehman did not lend his support to the government’s efforts to pass crucial constitutional amendments. Speaking to the media outside the Parliament House, Asif pointed to this lack of backing as a key reason for the legislative delay.
Asif noted the uncertainty surrounding the legislative process, mentioning that the necessary numbers for passing the amendments were not met. “It seems the numbers were not complete,” Asif said, hinting at the insufficient parliamentary support. Although he was present in the National Assembly throughout the day, Asif said he was not fully informed of the details but attributed the failure to an incomplete majority.
The legislative delay has sparked growing speculation, particularly with both National Assembly and Senate sessions postponed until 12:30 PM on Tuesday. The reason for the postponement remains unclear, further contributing to the uncertainty surrounding the amendments.
