A pedestrian has lost a leg in a “hit-and-run” crash in Bradford, West Yorkshire Police confirmed. The incident occurred on Halifax Road, near the Tesco store in Buttershaw, around 8pm on Monday. The victim, a 17-year-old male, was left in a critical condition following the high-speed impact.
Shocking footage seen by local media showed the teenager lying in the middle of the road with a severed leg a few metres away. Bystanders gathered around the scene as emergency services responded. Police officers cordoned off the area, and debris, including a shoe, was seen scattered across the road.
The incident unfolded after a West Yorkshire Police patrol car spotted a vehicle travelling at high speed on the opposite carriageway. The patrol car turned around to pursue the vehicle, but it had already disappeared from view. Shortly after, officers discovered the injured pedestrian, struck by the suspect vehicle, which had failed to stop.
The teenager was rushed to hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Halifax Road was closed to traffic as police carried out investigations throughout the night and into the morning.
Police are continuing their search for the driver involved and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
