At least 27 people have been injured in Lahore after students clashed with the security team and police during protests over an alleged rape at a Punjab college.
Rescue officials confirmed the number of casualties, with one student transferred to a hospital in serious condition.
The unrest began after news of the alleged rape went viral on social media, sparking outrage among students who demanded accountability from the college administration.
A security guard has been arrested, but no formal complaint (FIR) has been lodged by the victim’s family, and the incident remains under investigation.
Deputy Inspector General Faisal Kamran stated that efforts are ongoing to locate the victim and verify the claims.
While hospital records and CCTV footage have been reviewed, no concrete evidence has been found yet. Kamran added that the police are engaging with the students and college administration, assuring a transparent investigation.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat visited the protest site, assuring students of justice.
He vowed that action would be taken against the college administration if allegations of misconduct, including evidence deletion, are proven.
