The FA has reportedly approached Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola as a potential candidate for the England managerial role.
With Guardiola’s contract expiring in June, the FA is exploring options to replace Gareth Southgate, who left the post after England’s Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.
Lee Carsley, currently serving as interim manager, has made conflicting statements about his interest in the role.
After a defeat to Greece and a win over Finland, Carsley hinted that the job requires a “world-class coach who’s won trophies,” suggesting that someone like Guardiola could be the right fit.
The contact with Guardiola is believed to be informal, but the Spaniard is said to be the FA’s preferred choice.
Guardiola, who has led City to six Premier League titles and won major trophies with Barcelona and Bayern Munich, remains coy about his future.
When asked about the England job, he told Italian media: “It’s not true. I’m Manchester City manager… I’ve not decided anything, everything can happen.”
While City is keen to retain Guardiola, his future remains uncertain, with pundit Roy Keane calling him the “best guy” for the England job if he becomes available.
