Urfan Sharif, the father of 10-year-old Sara Sharif, left a chilling note confessing to killing his daughter by beating her before fleeing to Pakistan, a court heard. The note, found beside Sara’s body in her Surrey home, reportedly stated: “It’s me, Urfan Sharif, who killed my daughter by beating. I swear to God that my intention was not to kill her. But I lost it. I am running away because I am scared.”
Prosecutors at the Old Bailey revealed that Sharif made a 999 call two days later from Pakistan, telling the operator: “I’ve killed my daughter. I legally punished her, and she died.” He later added, “she was naughty… I beat her up too much.”
Sara’s body was found in her bunk bed, covered as if she were asleep. Prosecutor Bill Emlyn Jones KC described the scene as “appalling” and said Sara had been subjected to a brutal campaign of violence for weeks. Medical examinations revealed she had suffered extensive bruising, burns, and multiple broken bones, both old and new.
Sharif, along with his family, had fled to Pakistan before Sara’s body was discovered. The trial continues as more details about the tragic death emerge.
