The Interior Minister responded to queries about the recent arrests of Afghan nationals, confirming that 56 were detained during the PTI protest actions. Naqvi strongly refuted PTI's allegations that police had used live fire against protesters, leading to fatalities. He challenged detractors to produce evidence of such incidents, noting the widespread use of cameras at the scene which would likely have captured any such events.
While acknowledging that tear gas might have caused injuries, Naqvi denied any deaths occurred as a result of police actions during the protests, underscoring the government's position amidst swirling rumours of casualties.
A government-confirmed operation at Islamabad’s D-Chowk on Tuesday night led to the arrest of over 500 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protesters. Federal ministers acknowledged the arrests but have not disclosed the number of injured.
PTI’s official social media accounts posted videos alleging the use of indiscriminate firing and tear gas by security forces, claiming casualties among their workers.

According to Islamabad Police, the operation began after 11 PM under a coordinated plan. Security personnel surrounded protesters before launching the crackdown, during which streetlights were switched off, and nearby markets were closed. The operation lasted two to two-and-a-half hours, resulting in the detention of over 500 individuals.
Police confirmed that vehicles in the Blue Area were left abandoned by protesters, and some were torched, including the container carrying Bushra Bibi and Ali Amin Gandapur. Videos shared on local media showed broken windows of vehicles on Jinnah Avenue following the operation.
Arrested protesters have been detained in various Islamabad police stations, with some transferred to a CIA sub-jail. Authorities plan to present detainees in court in phases, requesting physical remand.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has declared that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will continue its sit-ins nationwide, despite a large-scale crackdown on party workers in Islamabad.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi revealed that 954 protesters have been arrested over the past three days, including 610 detained during yesterday’s operations.
In a press conference held alongside Islamabad’s Chief Commissioner, IGP Rizvi detailed the confiscation of over 200 vehicles and 39 firearms, including Kalashnikovs and 12-bore guns, during the protests.
CM Gandapur condemned the crackdown and reiterated the party’s commitment to peaceful demonstrations. The protests are part of PTI’s ongoing campaign demanding the release of Imran Khan and addressing other political grievances.
Ali Amin Gandapur, a senior PTI leader, reportedly shared a statement on his official WhatsApp channel alleging that Bushra Bibi’s arrest was part of an “internal plan” (‘Androni Saazish Ka Nateja Hai’).

Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi, alongside Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, has ruled out any talks with PTI sit-ins, accusing Bushra Bibi of being responsible for the ongoing unrest and loss of lives during the protests.
Addressing the media at D-Chowk, Naqvi declared, "A woman is responsible for this chaos. There will be no talks with those spreading anarchy." He asserted that the state has pushed back protesters and maintained control over the area to prevent further loss of life.
Atta Tarar echoed the criticism, accusing PTI of exploiting poor individuals and Afghan nationals for their protests.

He added that Afghan detainees would face additional legal sections to prevent future actions of this nature.
Tarar also dismissed PTI's claims of peaceful protests, pointing to evidence of stone-pelting and other acts of violence.
He vowed to uphold the state's writ and warned against testing the government's patience.
"The state is not weak; we will not allow anyone to disturb peace on the Constitution Highway," he said.
Both ministers reaffirmed their stance on refusing concessions to PTI and ensuring strict legal action against those involved in the unrest.

Sadiq Sajid, a senior journalist at AIK News TV, confirmed that 15 to 20 staff members had to lock themselves inside their office after protesters entered the building.
In response, PTI has condemned the attacks, urging supporters to respect media personnel. A party spokesperson suggested that the perpetrators might not have been PTI supporters, indicating the possibility of troublemakers among the protesters.
These incidents have raised concerns about press freedom and the safety of journalists covering the protests. Media organisations are calling for measures to ensure the protection of their staff during such events.

In Islamabad, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protesters have climbed atop containers placed to block access to the Red Zone, a secured area housing key government buildings. Demonstrators were seen shaking hands with military personnel stationed on these barriers.
The military has been deployed under Article 245 of Pakistan’s Constitution, tasked with protecting sensitive installations. They have maintained a neutral stance, refraining from direct involvement with the protesters. In contrast, paramilitary forces, including the Rangers, have employed gunfire to disperse the crowds.
Currently, there is a temporary lull in the confrontations. Protesters have retreated a few hundred metres but are expected to make further attempts to advance toward D-Chowk, a central location within the Red Zone.
Efforts to negotiate a resolution have reached an impasse, with no agreement in sight.

The decision follows heightened tensions in the capital due to ongoing protests by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters
Islamabad Police have reported that three security personnel were killed by a speeding vehicle near the G-10 signal on Srinagar Highway during ongoing PTI protests.
Earlier, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi informed reporters that two policemen had been killed and over 100 injured during the protests, with many sustaining serious injuries.
The Islamabad administration has called in the army under Article 245 of the Constitution to maintain law and order in the capital amidst ongoing PTI protests.
Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon confirmed the deployment, stating it was approved to ensure the city's security during heightened tensions.
What Is Article 245?
Article 245 of Pakistan's Constitution enables the federal government to summon the armed forces to assist in maintaining law and order, defending against aggression, or managing security in areas of unrest.
Key Features of Article 245:
- Federal decisions under Article 245 cannot be challenged in any court.
- High Court jurisdiction is suspended for matters involving Article 245 implementation.
Historical Use:
- The army was previously deployed under Article 245 during the 2014 Imran Khan and Tahir-ul-Qadri sit-in and the 2017 Faizabad sit-in by TLP.
- In 2020-2021, it was invoked to enforce COVID-19 lockdowns under Imran Khan’s government.
The government’s decision reflects the escalating challenges in Islamabad, as PTI protests continue to pose risks to public safety and order.

Sources report that PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan conveyed a message from Imran Khan to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Bushra Bibi. In response, Bushra Bibi stated that Imran Khan instructed her to lead the party to D-Chowk "at all costs."
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had earlier warned PTI of "consequences" should they attempt to enter the high-security zone. However, Bushra Bibi reportedly emphasised that party workers are unwilling to compromise and are committed to their demands.
Article 245 of the Constitution of Pakistan outlines the duties of the armed forces, allowing them to assist the civilian government under the federal government's directives during threats to law and order, war, or external aggression.
Key Provisions of Article 245:
- Clause 1: Federal government directives to the army cannot be challenged in any court.
- Clause 2: High Courts' jurisdiction under Article 199 is suspended in areas where the army is assisting civilian authorities.
- Clause 3: Proceedings in High Courts related to areas where the army is active under Article 245 remain suspended.
Simply put, invoking Article 245 allows the federal government to deploy the army for internal security while limiting judicial oversight of its actions.
Historical Use:
- In 2020-2021, the Imran Khan government invoked Article 245 to enforce COVID-19 lockdowns.
- The article was also used during the 2017 Faizabad sit-in and the 2014 protests led by Imran Khan and Tahir-ul-Qadri.
Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi has mentioned the possibility of invoking Article 245 in Islamabad if Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) crosses the government's "red line." This may include deploying the army and imposing a curfew.
Punjab's provincial police chief, Usman Anwar, has reported escalating casualties following a day of violent clashes between supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and security forces.
Anwar confirmed that one police officer was shot and killed, with two others in critical condition. Additionally, at least 119 officers have been wounded. The clashes, occurring just outside Islamabad and in other parts of the province, also resulted in 22 police vehicles being torched.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's government is under mounting criticism for its stringent measures to suppress Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan stated that "blocking access to the capital, with motorway and highway closures across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has effectively penalized ordinary citizens."
To thwart the protests, authorities have arrested over 4,000 supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan since Friday. Additionally, mobile and internet services have been suspended in areas deemed to have security concerns, further disrupting daily life.
The government's actions have drawn widespread condemnation from human rights organizations and the public, who argue that such measures infringe upon citizens' rights and freedoms.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has warned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) against crossing a red line, stating that the government may take "extreme steps" if necessary, including invoking Article 245 of the Constitution.

Nauman Ali Butt, General Secretary of Rawalpindi's Oil Tankers Association, has raised concerns about a potential shortage of petroleum products in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The issue stems from supply disruptions caused by road closures in the twin cities, which have prevented oil tankers from accessing petrol stations.
The road closures, implemented for security or logistical reasons, have inadvertently hindered the delivery of fuel supplies. This situation poses a risk of fuel shortages, affecting daily activities and essential services in the region.
Authorities are urged to address the logistical challenges promptly to ensure the continuous availability of petroleum products in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Coordinated efforts between the Oil Tankers Association and local administrations are essential to resolve the supply disruptions and prevent potential shortages.
